Bramble Partners Networking at Gray’s Inn – Event Photography

Photography at an event in Gray’s Inn, or any of London’s prestigious venues is a small perk of the job. Bramble Hub connects public sector organisations with best of breed private sector suppliers through government procurement frameworks. They run regular partner events, some simply social, others opportunities to learn from peers, but they’re usually somewhere really nice. The latest one was in the hall at Gray’s Inn. The building was badly damaged in 1941, a brief history can be read here.

The Limbcare Garden Video Story

Video of a Hampton Court Flower Show Garden

The story that the Limbcare Garden video tells has more emotion at it’s core than most business video. That’s because the Limbcare Garden at the Hampton Court Flower Show was inspired by the emotional response of the garden’s designer, Edward Mairis. He learned of Ray Edwards MBE, the UK’s Longest surviving quad amputee and his dream to build the Limbcare Well-Being Centre to support amputees and the limb-impaired.  Edward’s garden was intended to help the fund-raising and eventually enrich the experience of the centre. Edward’s first show garden at the Hampton Court Flower Show, ‘Journey of Lifetime’ was awarded a Bronze Medal by the Royal Horticultural Association. This year the RHA gave Limbcare Garden a Silver Medal.

designer Edward Mairis says:

“The judges recognised the Limbcare Garden as outstanding because it brings a message of hope to amputees and their families who have the huge challenge of accepting a dramatically changed life. The garden symbolises how the charity gives hope and security. Within this calming space, the amputee can face up to what has happened to them and then learn to think differently about what’s important in life. The garden offers a sense of hope in the healing process, the verve of nature showing great resilience, growth and adaptability to the amputee.

“It was important to us to involve amputees in the creation of the garden. This has been another example of the way that Ray inspires and motivates other amputees, and I am delighted to have had the support of so many people Limbcare has supported over the years.”

Filming with Ray and the other limb-impaired volunteers was a joy and an inspiration.

Who’d do Their Business in a Stuffy Chamber?

Kingston Chamber of Commerce had a business networking meeting at The Canbury Arms in Kingston. A group of Young Enterprise competitors from a local school came along to pitch their product. They were fantastic – clear, articulate, lucid and with an enviable confidence that many of us grown-ups would envy.

Like many middle-aged men, I wear a suit to these events, but I’m in a minority, Kingston of Commerce is relaxed and friendly. Not that you can’t be relaxed and friendly in a business suit, but the membership is not dominated by grey middle-aged men, like me. Given that is was International Women’s Day, it was great to attend a meeting roughly balanced between genders.

Photography from Kingston Chamber of Commerce monthly networking event. October’s was at Bentall’s department store in Kingston. The event’s are always well attended, despite the impression this shot might give.

As you’d expect from Bentall’s, it was an excellent breakfast, and there were a lot of really interesting people to meet, never mind the business!

Whizzfit Fun and Games – Party Photography

WhizzFit events are fun and friendly, the business has been bringing out the inner child in everyone since 2013. With the emphasis firmly on fun first, everyone can join in, get active and improve their health and fitness. Having already made them a video, Angus got me back to get some stills that capture the excitement.

WhizzFit started when founder Angus discovered Dodgeball.  He was immediately hooked because he realised it was a sport that everyone can play and enjoy safely, no matter what age or sporting ability.  Since then, WhizzFit has continued to introduce new sports and activities such as Nerf into the business with the primary objective of bringing active, healthy fun to everyone.

Election Hustings in Kingston

It’s election time and the candidates in Kingston and Surbiton constituency have gathered together for a hustings organised by the Kingston Chamber of Commerce, apart from the Monster Raving Loonie Party candidate, who’s ill.

As you see, together the parties have selected a representative group of people. That’s if you ignore the women and ethnic minorities of Kingston and Surbiton, and people with disabilities. Oh, and the young people.

Strong and stable James Berry promises a Tory Brexit that will be sweet as honey and smell of roses.

James Berry is a true-blue Tory, but his impression of James the Red Engine (Thomas the Tank Engine, W. Audrey) is just brilliant.

‘Three men walked into a pub, a Tory, a Trotsky and a member of the Social Democratic Party’…

The meeting was in Kingston College and the discussion was business orientated. Naturally, it dwelled on the challenge of Brexit. Although nothing new was said, at least one candidate seemed intent on polishing the blemish on their Party’s image!

Notwithstanding my faintly sarcastic tone, the event was a very worthwhile part of the democratic process.

Official Opening of a Multinational’s International HQ in Richmond – PR Event Photography

I do like Americans, they’re so polite. Louis Berger is a $1 billion global professional services corporation based in Morristown, N.J., USA. Louis Berger ‘helps infrastructure and development clients solve their most complex challenges’. They build things. Big things like airports. They’ve established an international operations headquarters in Richmond upon Thames. As the starting bell rang on the Brexit boxing match, I hope they didn’t regret their choice of location. The staff attending the official opening was very multinational, I heard as much Spanish spoken as English. Thomas Topolski, President, Louis Berger International spoke about the company’s values – ‘At the core of everything we do is the promise to provide solutions that have a positive impact on society.’  The Mayor of Richmond upon Thames, Councillor David Linnette spoke about how the local authority was desperate for the Louis Berger’s business rates. Everyone took his slightly uncomfortable speech very graciously, of course, they’re American.

Great Music – Live at the Park in Teddington

Music from a pure voice, a violin and a guitar – an unusaul, but exquisite sound was heard in The Park Hotel in Teddington, when Charlotte Andrew performed. Her beautiful voice and violin where accompanied by guitar in a programme of popular songs.

Breakfast Muffins in the Mayor’s Parlour – Business Event in Kingston

On the desk of the Mayor of Kingston upon Thames – books to makes sure he knows his place…

Kingston Chamber of Commerce’s latest networking breakfast event was in the Mayor’s Parlour in the Guildhall.  I had to go and have a look – just too tempting for a nosey person like me.  You always meet some interesting people at these well-attended events, and you find out about their many great business ideas!

Business Networking in St. Mary’s University – photography

St.Mary’s University is just up the road from where I live. It specialises to sport science and many of their students are themselves athletes. Part of their campus is in Strawberry Hill House, Britain’s finest example of Georgian Gothic Revival architecture, Strawberry Hill House was designed and created as a Gothic fantasy between 1747 and 1792 by Horace Walpole, historian, writer, collector and son of Britain’s first Prime Minister Sir Robert Walpole.

The University leased most of the dilapidated old mansion to a trust for renovation some years ago. After £9,000,000 of work the beautiful building was opened to the public in 2010. But the university kept a few beautiful rooms for their own use, known as the Waldegrave Suite. When the Head of the School of Sport Health and Applied Science, Prof. John Brewer spoke to a Chamber of Commerce, he used the hall and it’s features to illustrate just how far, high and fast ‘elite’ athletes hop, skip and jump. St.Mary’s students did incredibly well in the Rio Olympics. Prof Brewer explained very proudly that, had the University been a country, it would have been 25th on the medal table, with 3 golds, a silver and a bronze.

Police Chief Superintendent Parm Sandhu, Borough Commander of Richmond, spoke at the meeting. Parm is currently one of the highest-ranking Asian women in policing in the UK. She is also the first in the history of the Met Police to hold the position of a Borough Commander.
